Solar Eclipse. On april 8, north america will experience its second total solar eclipse in seven years. A solar eclipse occurs when a new moon aligns perfectly between earth and the sun and briefly casts a shadow on our planet, called an umbra.
Here on earth, we can experience two kinds of eclipses: A solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and earth, casting a shadow on earth that either fully or partially blocks the sun’s light in some.
